One I’ve been meaning to do for quite a while – Pen-Y-Fan, the highest point in Southern Britain at 886m, 2907ft ASL. Around 400m of ascent from the car park, but quite a good path. Got above the clouds this time – some great views from up there! Being a weekday, not a huge amount happening on the radio and the Russian QRM was high, but a good few 50-60 mile QSO’s and a nice 50 mile 446 contact into Somerset.

Video shows my tower and Delta Loop repaired and being raised with the winch and winch pole. The winch is an inexpensive Chinese made 3000 pound ATV unit. The mast pipe was replaced with 21 foot schedule 40 1 9/16″ OD natural gas pipe. It’s 42 to 43 feet to the feed point/boom. My friend Jimbo put solid stock in the legs of the break over section that is in the ground with concrete and mounted the winch for me. My other friend Wolfey swapped top tower sections with me because after getting the new mast I discovered the neck was tweaked quite a bit in my top section. The mast would not align to go into the rotor neck. A big thanks to all my friends. Without them none of this would have been completed. I need to lengthen the 12 volt DC leads to the winch and put the battery charger clamps on the ends yet. Used my 1973 Ford F100 truck as the electrical supply to raise it.
